Sion Airport before your flight: check-in, the restaurant and private-aviation lounges

Sion Airport (SIR) has one main terminal building, with its check-in desks and its restaurant before security, and private-aviation handling companies that receive their own passengers. Each place below says where it is and links its official page, with its hours and who may use it wherever that page gives them. Flights and services change with the seasons, so check that page before you travel.

Sion Airport in a minute

Sion Airport has one main terminal building for airline flights, with its check-in desks in the entrance hall. Passengers on private flights are received by their handling company: the airport lists three, set out with the lounges below.

Flights from within and outside the Schengen Area can arrive and depart directly: the airport has customs and immigration during the aerodrome's operating hours, which change with the season and are set out with the day's other hours below.

The latest flight timetable the airport published was for summer 2026: a Thursday flight to Palma de Mallorca, operated by Helvetic Airways from 28 May to 8 October 2026. When this page was last checked, the airport's flights page showed no timetable for winter 2026/27, so ask your airline or tour operator which flights operate on your date.

  • Check-in

The airport sets the latest check-in time at 45 minutes before departure. That is a deadline, not advice on when to arrive: your airline or tour operator says when to come, so follow its instructions for your flight. Helvetic Airways, for example, generally recommends arriving at check-in 2.5 hours before departure.

Before security: the restaurant and its terrace

Before security, the main terminal building holds the check-in desks and Terminal60, its restaurant, where you can eat and wait before your flight within the restaurant's hours.

After security, and the private-aviation lounges

The airport's own pages describe no lounge, shop or restaurant beyond security for passengers on commercial flights, so plan to eat at Terminal60 before you go through. The lounges at Sion belong to private aviation. The airport lists three handling agents, Signature Flight Support, Alpine Jet Service (Alpinejet) and its own handling service, under which it also names a lounge. Each receives the passengers of the flights it handles; your flight documents or your flight company tell you which one is yours.

  • Airport handling lounge

The airport is one of the three handling agents it lists, and it names a lounge under its own handling service. Its page gives the lounge no hours, place or conditions of entry, so ask the airport's handling service when you arrange your flight.

The handlers' hours follow the seasons and the aerodrome's operating hours. Confirm the time and the place to arrive for your flight with your handler or your flight company.

Families and assistance

Children have a playground at Terminal60, the restaurant before security. Passengers with reduced mobility ask their airline or travel agency for the airport's free assistance when they book.

  • Assistance for reduced mobility

The airport's assistance for passengers with reduced mobility is free. Request it from your airline or travel agency when you book, or at least 48 hours before departure, for your outbound and your return flight.

On arrival, the assistance meets you at your seat or at the aircraft door, as you need, and accompanies you to the arrivals hall and your baggage; it can then take you on to a taxi booked in advance or to your car in the long-stay car park.

Before departure, if time allows, the assistance can accompany you close to the restaurant and collect you again at the time and place agreed.

Skis and other sports equipment travel only as your airline accepts them, so check its rules before you pack. Helvetic Airways, for example, carries sports equipment under 150 cm within the baggage allowance; longer equipment must be registered, and equipment over 280 cm travels only on request.

Before security, Terminal60 is open until 23:00 from Tuesday to Saturday, and until 17:00 on Monday and Sunday. Passengers on private flights wait with their handler, within its hours.

The aerodrome operates in daylight, by season, and these are its operating hours, not the terminal's opening hours. From April to September it opens at 07:00 and closes at nightfall, at 20:00 at the latest. From October to March it opens at 08:00 and closes at nightfall, at 20:00 at the latest; until the clocks go back at the end of October, and again from the end of March, both times are an hour later. Movements outside these hours need the airport's special permission.
